Breast Milk Fridges, Freezers & Warmers

In a hospital setting Expressed Breast Milk (EBM) and colostrum can only be stored in dedicated refrigerators and freezers. The length of time that EBM can be stored depends on whether the milk has been freshly expressed or previously thawed, as well as the storage temperature. A medical-grade breast milk fridge is required to maintain the temperature below 4°C. Freshly expressed milk may be stored for up to a maximum of 72 hours and previously thawed milk for up to 24 hours. A breast milk freezer operating below -20°C can extend the storage time out to 6-12 months.

Frozen EBM needs to be thawed before it can be consumed. Frozen breast milk can be thawed in a breast milk fridge operating at ≤4°C for 24 hours. Once thawed, EBM may be safely warmed in of our hospital-grade breast milk warmer.
